Obituary for Alonzo James Woods Jr.

Alonzo J. Woods, Jr. also known as “Bass Man” born September 6, 1960 in Mobile, AL to the proud parents, Alonzo J. Woods, Sr. and Shirley Roberts. He departed this life on February 28, 2018. Alonzo was a graduate of John J. Pershing High School in Detroit, MI, Class of 1979.

He was preceded in death by his son, Alonzo J. Woods, III.

Music was the theme of his life and it poured out of him whenever he had a chance. He was a people person who never met a stranger. He was always laughing and never missed an opportunity to flash a smile. Alonzo was a singer, songwriter and performer. Often times, he was excited to share a song he had written either by playing it or just reciting the words. Alonzo was a chef, caterer, and provided security for many years.

Alonzo leaves to cherish his memories seven children: Delonzo Woods, Eric (Astella) Woods, Theron “Pierre” Woods, Shirley Daniél Woods, Monique Moore, Desmond Moore and Brian Moore; mother, Shirley Roberts; father/stepmother, Alonzo (Josephine) Woods, Sr.; eighteen grandchildren; five siblings: Venita (Charles) Johnson of Detroit, MI, Yolanda Woods-Williams of Mobile, AL, Lena (Jerome) Willis of Troy, MI, Veronica Woods-Watters of Southfield, MI and Monica (Marvin) Thompson of Southfield, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, friends, and devoted partner, friend and caretaker, Renetta “Tina” Taylor.
